I NEED MUGS.
It is a pain to have to be washing my mug 2x times a day: I have to wash it in the morning because I drank some tea at night, I have to wash it in the afternoon because I had coffee, and I have to wash it in the evening because I had chai latte during the afternoon... le sigh.

I have 2 entries badly written and generally too whiny posted private thinking I might re write them and post them public eventually, but I am having a really hard time collecting my thoughts and not being very negative and/or sounding too depressed.

Last april before I quit that dreadful job I became really neurotic and self centered and all I did was talk about how shitty things were for me and I think, no wait I KNOW that i became extremely unpleasant to be about, I am afraid it might come to that again, so I am trying to be cheery, never mind there's a water shortage and never mind the unemployment rates are at their highest in the past eleven years.

Anyway I am probably just writing this because it is 1:33 am and I cannot go to bed, but how could I possibly sleep if I slept all afternoon, I had terrible terrible cramps, really just dreadful, the kind of cramps you just have to sleep through because there's really nothing to be done about them.

Being out of a full time job gives me a lot of time to just think about nonsense, play pet society and watch movies. Below I present you with a list and commentary about the ones that I can actually say something about.

The sisterhood of traveling pants
I only watch the first half hour of this one, I thought it was going to be one of those cheesy movies for pre teen girls with messages like be yourself and whatnot but it was the most dreadful piece of shit ever to be filmed (I might be exaggerating but not very much). Honestly I thought America Ferrera was a smart girl, how on earth could she have chosen such a stupid script, full of fat phobia and ethnic stereotypes. This movie is so bad that it is not even funny anymore.

27 dresses

I think they wanted Hugh Grant for the boss but couldn't get him. The script is crap, not a lot of jokes, Katherine Heigl is taller than her beau, the dresses are too ugly to be beleivable. But I would recommend watching it if it is ever on tv, pluses include: not needing to pay much attention to it so you can do something else at the same time, poor direction, and cheesy montages.

Knocked up

I liked this one, maybe because I watched right after the afore mentioned one, or maybe because it was actually good? the script is funny albeit a bit ridiculous. The women in the movie are crazy bitches, all of them, the men are endearing. Magic shrooms are consumed, if that doesn't tempt you to watch I do not know what will.

He's not that into you

Meh. I am sure my mother really liked this one. I had to watch it, it has Drew Barrymore and Jenifer Aniston and as a rule I watch any movie with either of them in it, also there's Ginnifer Goodwin who I think is just adorable. It is supposed to be based on that self help book, so all through the movie you get advice on how to pick a good bed/life mate, in the end all the good people get their happy ending. It is done in the style of sex and the city, I guess I enjoyed it, and would watch again on tv in five or six years.

I am not going to lie to you people, I don't watch this type of movies because there's nothing else on, I watch them because I enjoy them, and I am well aware their are meant to suck you in and get you to buy crap, be it actual crap or crappy ideas, but they are also entertaining and light, and I can't really take a Synedoche, New York or a What ever happened to baby Jane? everyday of the week, I am half crazy so I need to scape to this worlds where everything is clean, people wear sensible clothes, they are all kind of pretty and kind of witty and there always is a happy ending.

Now I am of to watch that one with Michael Cera because he is a cute kid and the need to sleep hasn't caught up with me yet.

Since my camera's battery charger is not to be found, and I lent the BF my little card reader thingy there are no pictures to be showed, also I am not even sure what kind of pictures are on my camera, so, I am going to share with you my dear friends some of the treasures I've come across lately, mind you I am no art critic:

Carmen Segovia

Her illustration stye is bold, and it has a hint of victorian, girls and the female are a recurring theme in her work, all in all very contemporary. She keeps a blog too.

Oliver Jeffers

There is a such a contrast between his paintings and his illustrations. The paintings, specially the portraits are strange, he takes the characters and objetcs out of context and makes them come across a bit eerie and I dare say conceptual even; on the other hand the illustrations are all things lovely and naive, but very very polished at the same time. His work is just beautiful no matter how he approaches it.

Rutu Modan

This israeli comic book artist and illustrator recently gained widespread notoriety because of her comic book Exit Wounds published by the amazing Drawn and Quaterly, I haven't read that one, but I have read a book she illustrated called something like Dad ran off with the circus, and it was really really cool, she uses a mixed technic in which she incorporates patterns a textures, she even uses origami paper. She is so big that she even has a visual column in The New York Times.

Since that last post in which I was basically throwing a fit about not getting a job (of course by now I am embarrased by it so I made it friends only) I landed an interesting freelance gig, I have to make designs for t-shirts that are to be sold in department stores, of course the pay is to be laughed at, but I am actually gonna do something I absolutely enjoy and I am getting money for it! and needless to say a little money is always better than no money.

Also I got a listography account so I can have some order in my list making vice.

This is why you should have floors so clean you can eat of them:

Today I was a kinda out of it so I made a really awesome meal for myself: unfortunate shrimp, I just came up with the name, as it is something I just invented.

I am gonna type it below so I won't forget it because it was quite good:
Sauté some diced onion in some oily substance, I used butter. When were cooked I added some shrimp cut in cubes, when shrimp was almost cooked (you have to do some guessing to know this if you used precooked shrimp, but the scent is a big clue), add some sugar and some chili powder and sautéed some more. Then serve it over rice and put some fresh cilantro coarsely chopped on top.

As I was enjoying my delicious meal the plate srpang wings and flew of my hands, but lost control in mid flight and landed bottoms up on my shoes, rendering it impossible to salvage any of it, also there were ashes all over the floor, I seriously needed to mop.
I have now mopped and made a sandwich. dammit.

I was drinking lime lemonade (limenade?) with some fresh mint, but really what I thought I was making was this, of course the ideas got mixed in my head, so really I don't know where the mint thing comes from.

Anyway, next time I make this, I am going to cook it with a little olive oil, skip the chilli poweder, not forget to add some bacon and instead of cilantro it is going to be fresh oregano and some chopped pecans. Cooking makes me happy.

I have a vague certainty that very often I begin my posts with a "this post was way obvedue" kind of formulation, and just like I am about to do now, I proceed by declaring that I should write here more often. I am going to stop that as of now: I am gonna write whenever I feel like it and not mind if I was absent from livejournal for a year or a month or a day.

Having said that, on with the post.

So I moved to my first apartment, with my name, and my name only, stamped on the lease, where I will be living by myself.

I though it was going to feel more momentous, but it doesn't. Maybe it is because I haven't really spent much time here, and because I am still living amongst boxes and suitcases. Actually today is probably the day I have spent the most time here, by myself, not sleeping.

It is just beginning to take shape, I have very few pieces of furniture, no sofa, no dinning table, no stereo, no bedside lamp, no door mat, not very many things indeed.

My father is coming to visit this weekend, actually my whole family is coming, but everybody else, except him and my little brother, have already been here.

That is probably what is going to force me to finish unpacking and tidy up a bit, I have to wash the floors, because this stupid gray tiles get dirty really easy, and the kitchen is kinda messy because I've been cooking almost everyday, so far that is what I am loving the most about this place, my kitchen and the meals I am cooking in it.

Tomorrow when everything is more put together and there is better light, I am going to take pictures, in the meantime here are some vignettes:

oh well... i haven't been eating better, I actually got sick and didn't eat at all during the weekend, but i made a resolution to try and take things more calmly and despite some of the hell that's happened I've been cheery and bouncy and optimistic (mostly).

so i am moving, by myself, possibly to this beyond awesome appartment, cross you fingers for me.

I am gonna miss de BF terribly, but the situation is above us and the choice is not really ours, we are gonna be close by and hopefully we will see almost as much of each other as we do now...

But really how long have I've bee dreaming about having place of my own? maybe I'll even get a kittie!! Come to think of it I am more excited than sad, because now it is only plans and dreams, but when it is final and I actually have to pack, I'll prolly be pralized with sadness, and other negative feelings such as fear.

So as you can imagine I've had home decor in my mind a lot lately... So here are a few picture form my google reader starred item's, that hopefully I'll get to try at my future home:

Giant scissors on the wall, ribbon banners (I am thinking maybe embroidered messages), multi pattern wallpaper (crazy, who is going to paper a rental? but maybe as something else), and giant doily carpet.

Sorry for the lazy ass editing job, but I am sort of sick of photoshop by ths time of the day, and completly unlike me I am not crediting any pictures because, again I am lazy, if you want to know where I got them just comment, maybe I'll fix this later.

Ok so the scrapbook thing was just a cover up for the real reason of this post, I've been all awwww and aaaaaah and giggly over this since Alice Bradley linked to it, and I usually make fun of people who are into this kind of think but awwww, it's a little beagle!! I would never post this on tumblr it would ruin my cool, hahaha, but go see it and love it.

I've been gone form livejournal for a long time.
What is the point to even link to it from my other internet thingys if I never update anymore?

I feel like the above idea comes up very often in this and other livejournals, maybe getting a blogger account again will spark things up? Do I even have things to say? or would I just be cluttering the internet with even more pointless rants and ulgy pictures?

Actually I don't even take pictures anymore, all I do is rant about my job.

But it is very rant worthy I assure you, the clients are mean, my boss is exploiting me, it drains me creatively, it leaves time for nothing else.

But then again maybe I should post more often to make it a sort of break from work?

I am on tumblr now, and I love it, I love looking at my own tumblr, it is a collection of all things I find beatiful, it is like an internet scrapbook for my own visual pleasure. But I rarely post things that aren't already online elsewhere.

There's also the fotolog, that one is mostly things that aren't already on the internet (or at least I like to think so), I post my won stuff, but I have a hard time writting the captions now, like I said before I've run out of things to say.

And there's also the flicrk, but there's never anything new over there either, I stoped carrying my camera around, all I do is go from home to work, and on weekends all I want to do is sleep and watch tv, but I don't, I go out and see stuff and enjoy it, but under the enjoyment I feel very unmotivated, very tired.

I blame it on how poorly I've been eating, I only eat junkfood if I eat at all, maybe I should start taking vitamins, maybe that would give me back my joie de vivre.

I feel like I desperately need to change my ways. I am on the verge of fucking everything up, my relationship, my shitty job (i have a love hate relationship with my job), my health.

But anyways, enough with the depresive ramblings, here is some sillyness:

So, yesterday was probably the most perfect day I've spent with him, and that is saying a lot because weekends are usually perfect around here.
I could write a long long entry about how he looked just awesome, about how I realized that I don't ever want this to stop, about all the picture taking that went on and about how he was worried about who was going to post which ones, and etc., but whatever I can say simply won't do justice to yesterdays perfection. So here are some pictures.

A list of totally unrelated things:

I just remebered today that I love this bag, and it wasn't on the site any longer, so I was quick to do a google search and found this pictures which I saved to my photobucket so I will never lose it again. I wish I could own it.
- I have a job now, my bosses are total bitches, and I have a feelling that I might not be fit for the job, the clearly said to us "if you don't love money, then what are you doing here?" I might love money less than other people, but I do love things, and money is vehicle to them, so who knows.
- Mexico City has been so beautiful lately, I don't care for the pretentitous hipsters, or the lame business people, or the malls, or even the neighborhood I am living in (way too trendy) but the parks, downtown, the art... i am in love with this place as I knew I would be.
- I might get a tatoo tomorrow, but maybe I won't and go see soulwax instead.
- I need to finish writting that thing about that show at scion

No pictures today because I am totally lazy and can't be bothered to upload the pictures to the computer.

Mexico City is exactly as I thought it would be, sad and beautiful and huge.
Good things have happened since I moved here, like becoming the owner of this trinkets:

Clockwise from top left: a pin chushion either made by my grandma' or my gratgrandma'; an old leather wallet; a make-up bag i always wanted as a child, it has a mirror inside and it is velvety; and a brass hairclip, i don't like it much now but i might in the future.

The job hunt it's on it's way. I really want to get a job in my field, I've sent out 20 applications and have only heard back from one place. God. This is so so scary, I don't want to end up giving up and just getting a job a sales clerk or secretary, but I am only giving it another week before I go out and get just any job.

I made a portfolio online, I think it's good, you've prolly seen all of it already, but take a look and tell me if it flys.

A friend in advertising is recommending me to everyone he thinks might be interested, I hope something comes from that.
In the meantime I am going to start freelancing, I am going to make a cheap'o pricelist and a flyer and place it in some strategic places, this in the hopes of making a little money while expanding my portfolio.

I am too tired to do that right now, so I am gonna make me some tea and knit knit knit (I am making this for Miguel's birthday) until I feel more up to it.

I just made myself a cup of milky chai. I needed some comfort. I had a bad day. One of series of bad days. Eccept yesterday, yesterday was good, there was art yesterday.

The reason I've been gone for so long, is the same reason I am always gone: life came in the way of me and the internet.

I am living in Mexico City now. If it seem sudden, it is because it was sudden.
I don't have a job, or spirit to go look for one.

I love love love this girls work, it reminds me a bit of anime and a bit of Nikki McClure, but I don't know anything about her except that she is form Taiwan, has a beautiful cat, that she is extremely talented and very very prolific.

Momus' latest entry (mainly the bit about Cocue and the mongols) made me think of Mexico's hipster scene pride and joy Alejandra Quesada who appropirated some pieces of clothing that are traditionally worn by mexican indigeonous groups for her spring collection.

I think only the most liberated, or oblivious, mexican hipsters (or foreigners who would deem this fashions exotic) would wear this without irony, because we as society, despite official discourse saying otherwise, try to distance ourselves from the marginalized indigenous people who are still widely perceived as ignorant and a bit of a curiosity, and while Alejandra Quesada has very laudably found inspiration in the not so obvious (in mexico everything is an emulation of things happening elsewhere, be it in music, art or fashion), I think this is actually feeding the idea that indigenous people are a curiosity, it is still romanticizing them.

But don't get me wrong, I think her designs are lovely.

First things I am not so happy about:

Not having any pictures to share, the only ones I've taken recently are of things I have bought, not things I made and that is dissapointing (to me).
Creating only work related stuff, newspaper things mainly.
Becoming aware of how much of me is in the interlands, and having to make a lot of pictures on my flickr "friends only"
